AFter thinking about it some more, try a google search for "sub-interface linux" or "IP Alias linux". Also, if you search at TLDP.org, it will turn up at least one match.

SSH can be used to create tunnels, but I'm not sure it'd be a pretty implementation, if doable at all. The ports would look like they were local on the remote box, which could be powerful and it could be ugly.
