If LILO works. use it and be happy. At one point while still using LILO, I got into a "you can't get there from here" situation when installing a new release (can't remember the details) where the LILO version on the distro did not like the LILO version on the mbr, leaving me stranded and not getting anywhere with RTFMing, so I switched to grub and have never looked back.
I also remember a time where LILO would not boot a new FS (maybe XFS when I first loaded gentoo more than 2 years ago). I'm sure LILO has improved since then.
