1) My kernel does have complete ext3 support (/proc/filesystems is
ok).  I tried 2.4.15-pre6 (I think it was pre6), but some of the
compiles failed, so I will wait until .15 final comes out.  I wasn't
really interested in pursuing why the compiles failed.
2) My current filesystem is reiserfs, so tune2fs won't help.  I did
use tune2fs to turn off interval fsck on the new filesystems, however.
3) The real problem, as I suspected, was my fstab entry.  I fixed it
up like in the following post (Kurt), and now my system works just
fine.  I just need to copy over my sylpheed mail directory again
before cutting over.

Thanks Kurt for the fstab sample.  That did the trick.
