Thanks for the tip on kernel config. I probably said yes and/or no to the wrong things when I config'd kernel 2.4.16. The last one I did was for kernel 2.2.14 on eD2.4 and it was much simpler, in some ways. There's another reason or two that I will have to recompile the kernel and will try this when I do. Will this turn off DMA to the hard drive and hurt performance? As for fixing cd audio, it's on that big to-do list that's a mile long. It's not critical, I get all other sounds, but would be nice to have working. Just glad to get the cdrw problem fixed. Thanks again for the info.
