I bought some Varta Ready2Use slow-discharge AA cells from Bunnings about two years ago, another batch about a year later, and some Eneloops from DealExtreme about six months ago.
I use them in my camera and various LED torches, my son uses 8 in his radio-control transmitter. They charge in a NiMh charger. The charger I have has a maximum charge current of 2000mA, so it takes just over an hour to charge the 2000 mAh cells. This report suggests you use a 1-hour charger or slower, not a super-fast (15-minute) charger. He finds little practical difference between all of the brands that he tested. http://www.stefanv.com/electronics/low_self_discharge.html My totally unscientific assessment cannot distinguish between the Varta and the Eneloops in my camera (2xAA), head torch (2xAA) or various high-brightness single-AA LED torches (also from Deal Extreme). They last as-well-as or better than the standard NiMh that I used to use, and are always charged. Stephen Irons On 14 July 2011 12:41, C.
