Telecom has disconnected us through share incompetence and I have only just got an opportunity to send this. I have two _small_ requests: 1: We're getting closer to the day so I'll need a list of people who will definitely come to Rangiora. If sufficient people ask for the event to be moved to Saturday I'll look into moving it. 2: I would really like some additions to the conversions hand out. Particularly better tutorials than the ones I found on an offhand web search, more unique Open Source software. More rough equivalents would be nice as well. -- Ryan McCoskrie North Canterbury, New Zealand http://sourcelinksnotes.comyr.com

\title{Open Alternatives}
\begin{document}
\section*{Open Alternatives}
If you do not feel ready to move away from a proprietary Operating System
consider installing some of the software commonly used on Open Source systems.
If you start using Open Source applications now, it will be far easier to start
using a completely Open Source system in the future.
The follow is a list of applications that are popular on Linux and are also
available for Windows and Mac OS. Remember that these are only \textit{some}
of the options and that any change takes some time to adjust.
\begin{tabular}{l l l l}
\hline
\textbf{Replace} & \textbf{with} & \textbf{from.} & \textbf{More information at:} \\

Microsoft Office & LibreOffice & www.documentfoundation.org & www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation \\

\section*{Unique Offerings}
The following applications are extremely powerful but also have no equivalents
and will thus take much longer to learn.
\begin{tabular}{l l l}

Blender & Complete 3D art and animation package & www.blender.org \\
