Actually, I have to disagree with the several of those points in that
article, but I'll only mention one thing.

Ever since I came here, in this town especially, I never felt a hint of
xenophobia, despite my heavy accent, broken English in the early years,
and slight social awkwardness when first interacting with various
sections of the society. I was even positively discriminated (if I can
say so) feeling a bit uncomfortable sometimes when two or three of a
supermarket employees where around me to find things my English didn't
cover at that time.
And had no problem getting into the so called "old boys' networks",
either for employment or just socialising.

As for Carl's remarks, coming from an Eastern European slightly Balcanic
background, I can recognise the influence of personalities in most
sectors here, be they private or state owned. What's interesting is that
usually this generates a lot of corruption in other places, amazing that
there isn't much of it at all here.
