I was looking for a job (10 years ago), but the story is probably still 
valid.

I went into a jobsRus firm, and went through an introductory interview 
process..
She looked at my CV, which mentioned two university degrees.
Her only question was: "What school did you go to?" It is important to 
have this
- she explained something about school ties etc.

I was flabbergasted - comments about the relevance of the school came to 
mind,
given the nature of the Uni qualifications. Perhaps I should have said,
"Well, if school is important, should I not mention the kindergarten I 
went to?"

Now, to bring it on topic.
This parochialness is less of an issue in Linux - anyone is good..
However, if you don't speak/write English - it is a bit harder.
