She has asked if I can reposition my box elsewhere in the house away from the cable & modem.

This will require a wifi system being installed. I think I need a wireless modem, and a wifi card to insert into the box. This is a common setup for most of you but I have no experience in this area. The modem supplied by Telstra is a Surfboard with 1 ethernet port and 1 usb port.

Advice on what I need will be appreciated.

I recommend you install a wire from the cablemodem to whereever you want the other bits.

Wireless is great for phones and the odd laptop, but for infrastructure wires win the day every time.

Another option is to move the incoming cable to another location. This is generally quite easy to do yourself as long as the plug on the cable goes back through the hole in the floor. It may be possible to get telstraclear to do this for you, possibly at a cost.

If you have to do what you're asking then you need two wireless access points in bridge mode, or one ethernet-based router with wireless plus a wireless card for your PC. There will still be kit located at the cablemodem though.

Make sense?
