I have Telstra connection and its been very reliable... I have
had something "weird" happen recently (one of two support
calls made in 3? years)
Both time is has involved resetting the cable modem. It has a
lovely reset looking button on top that does NOTHING. Phone
support could reset it or I could have unplugged the modem
and plugged it back in again.
No problems since.
Can you traceroute to the mail server and see where delays are?
