Hi-ho...
The older white Hauwei ones work fine with Linux, but I've had variable
luck with newer USB modems..
These days I WiFi tether to my iPhone.. Works with Androids as well I
believe although not tried it myself. Just get a decent data plan and
you're cooking.
(Assuming it's a laptop you want to connect that is, otherwise you'll
need a PCI Wifi card or similar :-) )
