Hi.

Just acquired two Optias (not AF) for use on dell laptops running Ubuntu
Gutsy, after spotting them on the http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/#devices page.

Got them to work with Ekiga after selecting v4l2 but with horrible quality.
Compiled luvcview and that gave just slightly better quality.

A recorded avi from luvcview:
"totem" reports: 320 x 240 Motion JPEG 16 fps.
"file" reports: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 320 x 240, video: Motion JPEG

a still from same:
"xview": 320x240 JPEG image, color space YCbCr, 3 comps, Huffman coding.
"file": JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.02, baseline, precision 0, 4360x240

This can't be the best I can get out of this camera?
The pics from the reviews I have seen don't look like this.

My rotten old Philips PCA 645VC/EU that I got at a fleemarket for ~5$ gives
much better results...

After extensive googling I still can't find any clues.
What to do?

Regards

Gaute Amundsen
