Hello all,

I agree with Alayne, this: "OCLUG gave NCF $4247.90 -- and now the NCF wants to
charge _every member_
of a low-volume mailing list $12/year? Yes, I'd call it an obstacle, both
the cost for some & the PITA for anyone who doesn't need to be an NCF
member."

Is not going to work.

Personally, I would like to be involved in a Board for a Linux/Unix user group
- I cannot dedicate myself to Linux or the GPL for various reasons. I would,
however, support an Ottawa/Gatineau/NCR Unix Users Group, or reviving the
(http://www.ocuug.on.ca/). If anyone is currently working on this, please
reach out to me!

Sincerely,
Katie

OCLUG gave NCF $4247.90 -- and now the NCF wants to charge _every member_
of a low-volume mailing list $12/year? Yes, I'd call it an obstacle, both
the cost for some & the PITA for anyone who doesn't need to be an NCF
member.

Imagine trying to get anyone new involved in OCLUG -- "BTW, it will cost
you $12/year to get meeting notices and take part in discussions."

Surely there's a better solution that this.

The shyness is not unusual. If you weren't quiet, you wouldn't have so
desperately searched for a way to speak. The reason you have so desperately
pursued your work and your language and your voice is because you haven't had
one. - Bruce Springsteen, in _Renegades_
