If its not already done, try disabling DHCP on the wired router. If its being used as a switch only, then DHCP should be off, I believe. I'm not certain but I think switches are basically 'transparent' so try setting your default gateway for the wireless access point router, if you haven't done it already.
The problem may be that its a DSL router. Its the wrong type of device for what you are trying to do. I would suggest taking it back and exchanging it for a simple four port network switch. Thats all you really need to expand your network, and they are cheaper than DSL routers.
