I used to use KMail, but it was always problematic. Then I used
Evolution for a while, but had no use for the other 'Outlook'-like
parts of the application, so I abandoned it for Thunderbird, which is
a pretty good MUA, in my opinion.

Yep. As far as I have been able to figure out, that is an unalterable
default in Konqueror. I never really went digging for a Konqueror
config file, though, to see if there was a way to alter the default
manually, but I was unable to find a way to change the default
behaviour in the GUI.

With Firefox and Opera as my primary Internet browsers, I use
Konqueror primarily as a file tree, although I do perform a small
amount of HTML editing with it, because that is convenient.

KMail is the equivalent of a vintage Windows 3.1 MUA. It has been
replaced by better tools. It still exists, is all.

On my Win98 installation, on my laptop, I still have CompuServe
DOS_CIM and WinCIM installed, and believe it or not, both still work
for connecting with some of the older, non-Web CompuServe forums, and
for sending and receiving email.

They are pretty clunky, though, I would not want to use them every
day, for all of my email needs.
