Another option, assuming you have broadband, would be to download iso's
and burn CD's of some of the various "Live" distros, that is, distros
that run from CD.
Some that are frequently recommended as being good for newcomers are
SimplyMepis, Ubuntu, and Kanotix.
I don't know if anyone's mentioned www.distrowatch.com yet--take a look
there, they usually have brief descriptions of various distributions, as
well as download links.
