I'm at the point where I use only 2 proprietary programs on this
computer: Windows and Winamp, and I believe I correct to assume there
is an equivalent to Winamp on Linux (I just need to plays mp3s, that's
all). I tried installing Gentoo before, but had some problems with
the graphics, and later gave up since I ran out of room on my Windows
partition. I purchased a second 80gb hard drive, which I am now
running with the other one using RAID 0 using the nVidia RAID
controller on my motherboard (MSI nForce4). I was afraid that the
RAID might give me problems when installing, the installer seemed to
detect the RAID fine when selecting the partitioning. Oddly, when it
goes to actually install Linux (it gives the progress bar, next & back
buttons grey out), nothing happens. I gave it a good half hour in
hopes that it would work, though nothing happened (I didn't hear the
dvd whirring either). I can move the mouse and the num lock keys and
such still respond, although I can't click Release notes or anything.
For the rest of the weekend I'm going to be out of town, after which
I'll try again. Until then, any suggestions?
