I have a Netgear DG834G Router on my double HD computer to connect XP and Ubuntu. The advantage of a router over a modem becomes obvious when you find your connection never fails and you have a good hardware firewall in the router. It does require a cross over cable if not using the Wireless side and connecting by ethernet cable.
