It recognizes my sound card, under preferences, but I just can't get any audio
out. It works fine under windows on the other partition. I had Freespire
installed before Ubuntu and that worked as well.

System, then go Preferences and Sound in the menu. In the sound
dialog make sure Ubuntu know your sound card OK at the bottom then check all
options for sound in the rest of that control.

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] Sound on Ubuntu 6

I am running Ubuntu 6.06 on my IBM thinkpad A31. Sound worked for a
few weeks after install, then suddenly quit. It works once in a while,
but seems only to do so at random intervals. Sometimes it works on
 restart, sometimes not.
 Thanks,
 Clyde
