IMO, this is never a good way to "fix" anything in Linux, and it seems
to be a holdover from the way that Windows users tend to do things. I
mean, even if it works after a reinstall, what fixed it? What was
wrong? Are you going to reinstall when it happens again?
If you have problems, get on Google, get on the forums or website for
your distro. Ask around here. When you learn how to fix the problem
without a reinstall, you get a better idea of what's happening under the
covers so you can solve these problems again in the future.
Unfortunately, I don't have any further ideas for the original poster.
