You're right.
Possibly a typo on Roy's part, or else, perhaps he was thinking how
Ubuntu popularized it even more. Or, just a different definition of
pioneer, that we could cheerfully argue all day.
I don't think anyone would deny that Knoppix had great influence on the
whole LiveCD idea. I wouldn't swear they were the first, but I know
they were the first that I recommended to friends who were interested in
trying Linux.
Ah, all so long ago.
However, yes, BIG credit to Knoppix--they really raised the bar as far
as LiveCD's and it seems to me that they were probably the first to get
reasonably good hardware detection running.
