No. Don't use samba. Samba is for a printer shared on a Windows network. The
reason you bought the print server is to free you from the network shared
printer.

You use ipp. Set up the print server with a static ip address such as
192.168.x.x. The print server will assign a port. Then you install the printer
as a net work printer using ipp and provide the ip address and port.

Here is a method that is a bit dated but is the basic idea:

I'm not 100% certain about Ubuntu, but I'm pretty sure you
would set up a network printer in Samba instead of cups.

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] Print server on wired lan

Awhile ago there was a discussion about printing over a lan (wired) and
there was a suggestion to use a print sever. I bought a D-Link server
and got it working with my main Windows XP machine. Next I tried to get
it working on my laptop running Ubuntu 8.04 and I am stumped. Can
anybody help or point me to some documentation. I tried the printer
setup in Gnome, but I did not get that to work. Maybe I should try cups??
Jim
