I an assuming CUPS is installed. In your browser enter: http://localhost:631/

Click on add printer. Fill out the printer info and then on the second page
choose ipp as Device from the drop down. Click next and add the ip address in
the form ipp://192.168.x.x/portx or whatever other setup is appropriate. Then
click continue. Choose the Make and Model (closest match). Click add printer.
You may be asked for your user and password (the one used to set up the print
server).

Good luck!

Roy

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] Print server on wired lan

Awhile ago there was a discussion about printing over a lan (wired) and
there was a suggestion to use a print sever. I bought a D-Link server
and got it working with my main Windows XP machine. Next I tried to get
it working on my laptop running Ubuntu 8.04 and I am stumped. Can
anybody help or point me to some documentation. I tried the printer
setup in Gnome, but I did not get that to work. Maybe I should try cups??
Jim
