No - definitely reports correct version... ( libc.so.6 )

I have just tried a totally clean install straight off RH 5.2 CDRom to
formatted IDE HDD and can duplicate the problem as follows:

Install "everything" from RH 5.2 FDD (clean - no errata)

after install completes, I set up simples possible network (192.168.1.x)

Transfer RH 5.2 version of linuxconf-1.13r12-1.rpm and
linuxconf-gui-1.13r12-1.rpm to local HDD using FTP.

then...

   rpm -e --nodeps linuxconf

to remove version of Linuxconf that came with 5.2 distribution.

Then...

   rpm -Uvh linuxconf-1.13r12-1*

   rpm -Uvh linuxconf-gui-1.13r12-1*

Then run linuxconf and de-activate all modules.

Re-start linuxconf and then create a new user.

Close linuxconf and view passwd file

New user created with "!!" in password field

I note that the postgresqsl user (created by the RH install
"everything") also has a "!!" in the passwd field.

I then rpm -e --nodeps linuxconf and intstall version 1.13r8-1.

Create new user using Linuxconf.

Close linuxconf and view /etc/passwd.

Password field is created correctly.

Remove 1.13r8 and re-install 1.13r12... password creation error occurs
again.

Please let me know if I can do any more to help <grin>
