Modern Motherboards and Hard disks support DMA transfers
which is much faster than PIO (Programmed Input Output) so
with ATA66 compitable MB and HDD u should be able to get
good data transfer rate than PIO mode. In linux u can use
/sbin/hdparm util to program ur ide controler to use DMA
insteed of PIO. Pls read man pages of hdparm. With hdparm u
can check ur HDD's data transfer rates.
