Mail from ILUG-BOM list (Non-Digest Mode)

I have 2 modems connected as follows:
CompA--SerialA--ModemA--phonewire(directlyconnected)--ModemB--SerialB--CompB
So how do I log in from CompA to CompB using minicom on A and mgetty on B?
I'm currently typing atd but the remote end pretends the phone line
doesn't exist.
A is my main comp. B is a headless dnet box.
