U can't generate the ring signal thru modem
without some hardware. The signal is 90v P-P. But
most modenms will detct a signal above 24v p-p.
You would have to generate the ring sig manually
1st Method: by connecting a 24 v transformer
momentarily (.5 secs, 2 or 3 times) to the wire
btwn modems. NOTE: Fried modem could be on the
menu.
2nd Method:
Connect (wire up) phone line to both modems.
Dial 161 (this is ring test no. and is metered)
go off hook
Phone will ring & Rx modem will respond to ring.
Disconnect (un wire) phone line (if not line Z
mismatch will impair modem speed).
Go on hook / connect without dial.
You should get full 33K6 bps (14K4 in your case)
