While u can discuss the WM/GUI seperately from
the OS in the case of Linux/FBSD etc, talking of
windows GUI is pointless.
The OS and GUI (and several unrelated things) in
Win are a tangled mess.
What is the definition of "user friendly"?. That
which removes your decesion making capability or
that which gives u this ability.
It is "easy" to use because users have been
exposed to it for long and important issues are
conviniently forgotten. Incidentally my 7 yr old
nephew uses (games, mail, browsing, painting etc)
both Linux and windows. If u have used any nix
Linux is easier to use. If u used MAC u would
laugh at windows.
Would be fun If windows had to partition and
create 3 different file systems (not to mention
"partition phreaks" like Satya :-))
The darned thing cant even read an ext2fs
partition.
As stated in the "Matrix article" get into the
real world man.
Windows & MS both are horrible. During the
Monopoly trial they were hard pressed to list a
single MS tech innovation.
What is to be "admired" (as in admiring shark
teeth with ur head in it's maw) is their
manipulative and marketing skill. MS screwed IBM,
Sun, DEC etc with an extreme low cost product.
After gaining share they did what IBM, Sun, DEC
were doing earlier. Linux is doing the same to MS
- free OS. The difference is that Linux is owned
by everybody/nobody. So part 2 of the (distro)
story is as yet unknown/waiting for u.
As for hating/loving MS/WIN ever been to the
Income tax / ST / Railway office?. Heck they are
collecting dues from u crummy crooks to support
our India (oh I Love them).
MS is like that sell shoddy product, take ur
money and spend part of it to convince u of it,s
greatness. Of course before u are wise they will
bring u this great new pie in the sky. It has
taken a decade for some to wake up. Most are
still in the Matrix.
