prob with kppp

ok thanks to all you guys who took the time to reply to my query.most
appreciated.
as i had said that the program dropped the line after picking it up and said
that there was not dialtone.
so i gave the command atx1..also used in micorsoft dial-up-networking .so it
dials and it handshakes but the terminal window does nothing. also making
your own script in kppp dowsn't seem to work.
so i tried  minicom i'm able to do the user verification and log on just
like with windows...but nertscape doesn't go anywhere......why is this? and
after logging on i get knocked off in 2 minutes coz minicom (also happens
with kppp) says there is NO CARRIER.
how do i solve this new problem.
