Stick an & at the end of the line you added.

Oh dear, how do you get back into the system? Try ^C if it's not letting
you in. If still not, you need a boot disk.

A while back I had two semi-independant (semi because they mounted each
other (and that's NOT illegal!)) when appropriate) linux partitions for
just this sort of thing. One was slackware, IIRC.
