The chances are not good, and anyway we don't have access to most of the
content available online in the US or Europe.

When I found that my Samsung TV wasn't really smart,  I bought a Zotac HTPC
and put Ubuntu on it. It is a real pain in the neck if I want to use it as
a desktop computer, and XBMC also doesn't have much of a point without
online and offline content, although it is nice to look at.
