Hello ladies and gents, I'm new on this list, and have joined to give my perspective as a Windows/MacOSX VST/AU plugin user on the area of post production, editng and mixing for TV, film and games. Someone on the Reaper forum may have mentioned what I'm about to suggest to you, so here goes an idea that you can really chew on. Drag'n'Drop of material from the timeline of a DAW in to the sampler. That's it. Mainly I'm concerned with Reaper being able to do this, a DAW held in high esteem by its many users, and as some of you know, featuring a very responsive and exellent development team of two people on the coding side. Developing sound effects can be done in a million ways, and one of the most popular ways was to simply lay out samples on a keyboard and play them to find new sounds. That's how most of the animal sounds in Jurrasic Park were developed. The instrument used was called Synclavier, a keyboard sampler of highest quality. In short, this is what one particular commercial sampler already does. This is Structure by Digidesign. Unfortunatly they limited it to their own system, making it unusable for people wanting to pick Reaper to work with. The interface however is pretty good. You can toss anything from the timeline in to the sampler window and play it immediately.
