It doesn't.  It comes up in the center of the screen without any windows 
decorations, nothing to click on to close or to move it.

I see no way to make this do anything similar to what Kalarm do.  Unless 
you mean I should write my own program to execute at regular intervals.

If I wanted to write scripts then certainly I could do everything your 
first solution can do using cron.  I don't want to write scripts; I 
want to click.
