With the discussion about cellphones, I thought I would bring up my mp3 player of choice.
First off, I hate the IPod because of the incredible hassle it has been over the years transferring and ($I%$%ing) syncing music under Linux. Hipo is a great Linux tool that is easy to use in the repos for Ipod transfer, etc,...but seriously, it should be drag and drop..... Anyway, this article (via digg) got me thinking about my Sony Walkman mp3 player: http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/08/sony-building-android-based-walkman-and-pnd-for-2010-launch/ I generally hate all things Sony, especially their computers ( except I am starting to like Dino's Viao, once the camera starts working with Linux). My only exceptions have been the Playstation (booo to xbox ::grin::) and the Sony Walkman Mp3 Player. I have the 2gb model (NWZ-5615F) . It works VERY well with Linux. No syncing issues, just plug it in, drop your mp3s into the folder named "Music" (what a concept!) and umount like a normal thumb drive. You can also make playlists using Gnomad, which is in the repos. The player also play video, a few music formats, and have am/fm radio (which was a life saver during Hurricane Gustav). My 2GB gets 33hrs of battery life, no bs, as labeled on the package, and takes almost no time to charge. There is also a RESET button, just one, instead of having to hit 2 or 3 buttons for 10-15secs to reset your ipod. I have recommended this player to my brother and a few friends who use Linux, all with good responses. My brother just got the 8gb (non-Android) and it works just as well.
