Drudge a "good friend?" Uh oh. Drudge's garbage is worse than yellow
journalism. The man is a liar. Sure the page is entertaining, and I
look at it to see what shenanigans are coming next from the righties,
but it's complete spin and dissembling.

Anyway, yes I let Google's computers "spy on" my email. Many random
computers between me and you are able to spy on it and I have no
control. Google's automated systems get to target their ads more
effectively. In exchange, I get a very nice, free email client among
other applications.

Obviously if you are concerned about privacy you don't put the
information in an unencrypted email. Now INTERNAL to a corporation,
that's a different deal. You may want your corporate email on a Google
Apps or internal server setup behind the firewall/VPN.

I will say that I use https to communicate with Gmail. That's because
I don't want my clients/employers snooping on my mails. That's a
bigger concern to me than Google.
