Yeah, I was actually using the default wacom.ko. Ok, I rebuilt the drivers with --enable-wacom, and replaced wacom.ko with the newly built one in the 2.6.18 directory. (I also made sure to move the old wacom.ko out of its directory, and not just rename it). When I restart, the usb subsystem (or whatever its called) dies: the tablet no longer lights up, and replugging the tablet has no effect. This happens with the vanilla kernel and with the 'beyond' kernel (I'm using 2.6.19, by the way).
