Yes, this has been supported for some time.  To keep the complexity
reasonable, the owner chooses the string and the user just gets to decide
if they want to see it or not.

The overhead of this really isn't that bad.  You do take a hit in not being
able to do some SMTP batching, but I believe most MTAs will now batch
separate messages to the same host in the same connection so the overhead
is that required to transmit the slightly different copies of the message.
