Opinion:
I'd learn ANSI C or C++, if you haven't already, is my
suggestion (Although I learned a lot from assembly for the 8086 also).
Then you'll find JAVA easy, and will quickly pick up on any new language no
matter how convoluted. Then after you get the basics down, decide if you
want to follow the hype (on it's second service
pack since February) .NET stuff:)
With JAVA and C concepts under your belt, you will
have a better idea of what kind of coding you like and the market is always open
for good programmers in both. Then if you like ASP, CF, or .NET stuff, you
can make an educated decision as to what you want to do. I like doing CF,
ASP, and VB, but have a history in a lot. I play with .NET in my spare
time, but I am yet to be impressed.
