Yeah that's one thing Bandai has been struggling between. I have to check the MS Encyclopedia again, as I have wondered if those blue "flaps" are suppose to point outward. All version of models shows them on the same plate as the underside of the chest (blue part), but maybe it'd form any angle and the tips are actually pointing downward.

And I agree on you on the legs -- I was actually just looking at the 2.0 legs and wonder of its lack of 3D multi-plane curves, which is a signature on Zeta-era design (or a Fujita signature). But I didn't like the 1.0's lower leg's outer part's curve; I think it'd be flat like the lineart when looking from the front, one thing I agree with 2.0. The 2.0 thighs is, well, too much... the exposing joint is not for my Zeta taste.

The shield is definitely much smaller.  The 1.0 follows the late 90s
fashion of hanging huge shoulder pads, hip armor, lower legs and
forearms on tiny chest, waist, upper arms and thighs.  It looked
pretty cool back then.

The 2.0 took a major compromise toward the generation of robots before
that.  The chest and waist is much closer to the human scale (still
very thin compared to adullt male).  The upper arms and thighs are
also longer and thicker.  The knee pads are less assuming.  Overall it
feels like there's more body (robot) and less paraphernalia.

I can understand there's a whole school of designers (and fans) who
likes the 90s look.  But really, take a look at 1.0, it has a 20 inch
waist and a 60+ inch hip!
