In Ok's case, I suspect he keeps getting the big jobs because he's
open to repetition and micromanagement, unlike (I'm gussing now)
Tomino and Yas. Just checking on Yas now... he's been out of work in
the anime industry since F91. His mecha work is good if you listen to
fans here, and he's got the seniority, but he's not getting the big
job. I think it's not Bandai/Sunrise imposing any seniority rules,
it's a commercial rule they are using.
I have been thinking Yas has not been very active in anime is due to
health reason. I remember he was stressed out in the end of MSG TV,
and anyway his real job for the past decade and so has been on manga
and illustration work... in fact he has been working non-stop for all
the years except for a couple of years ago.
No matter you are young or old, traditional or experimental, you just
have to make profits. So Ok keeps cranking out rehash Gundam and
HGUC/MG keeps cranking out conservative models because the accountants
are telling them these are the designs that works.
Do you think there's a small split in sculpture between HGUC/MGUC
models and HG/MG Seed models? Are UC models (even the Zudah) getting
more conservative and Seed models getting more flamboyant?
I think the design is a factor... the recent Stargrazer design is
almost like going from Wing Gundam to EW. And for HGUC side... Athene
Palace or Gaza-C doesn't seems conservative to me. In fact all the
transformable MS has been quite a fest in terms of technology, but
surely Bandai sacrifice a little on design on those MSs.
But the sudden revival of short-legs-models in prototypes we've seen
(GP02A & MG F-91) do bother me... maybe it's a fatigue after doing
all the transforming MS for Z movies for the past year.
