>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Great points and I basically agree with them, BUT!...
Remember that a MS with the Gundam name has to look like a Gundam! IIRC, The Gundam's a symbol to the enemies, so each Gundam must look like a Gundam. A Gundam's look shows enemies what's coming at them. They don't at first know that a rookie[Amuro] is in the Gundam. Understood or do I need to clarify? Blaze >>>>>>>>>>>>>> I understand, but what really constitutes a Gundam? That is where the argument lies. It is also important to remember that the Gundams aren't just feared because they are Gundams. Gundams are feared because of the trail of death left in their wake. The Rx-78 wasn't even feared until later in the series after it had built up a reputation. A Haro could become a symbol of fear to its enemies if there were enough dead enemies left in its wake. My point is that a MS DOESN'T have to look like a traditional Gundam to be feared. Remember that Char's Zaku was feared until the Gundam started beating it. They could radically reinvent the hero Gundam, as in the case of the original Turn A Gundam design that became the Sumo, and if it kills enough bad guys, it will be feared. What it really comes down to is that the Gundams have always outsold the villains. Bandai is a toy/model company. They don't want to reinvent the wheel too much and risk sacrificing the Golden Goose. On a side note, I actually think that the reasons that Gundams sell more is not because they are better designs, it is because they are the hero. Most people want to buy something that associates them with the hero. I think that if they did a full length Gundam series where the main hero drove a Zaku, and the villains were all Gundams, the Zaku could potentially outsell them. In my opinion almost all of the "modern" Gundam designs are mediocre at best. -------------------------------------------------- The Gundam Mailing List MK-II [email protected] Archives: http://www.gundam.com/gml Help: Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with this in the BODY: help list
