If there's one thing Gundam and many other Anime, Manga, novels, movies, and
TV series have made clear it's that no matter how many reasons we can think
of for NOT going to war, there'll always be more of them. Or at least some
new twists on all the old ones that have been long since proven to be
"illogiocal". And there's always the old standby of "We're going to war to
protect/preserve/maintain the peace".
Going back to our speculation on Gundam 00, I keep going back to the tag
line on the teaser trailer - "Rebirth begins through destruction". The
"Celestial Being" organization, apparently through the Gundams, is trying to
do this by "eradicating all wars" (I'm quoting the translations from Guntoa
here). While it's douibtful that they can, by themselves, change humanity
and stop wars I am interested to see how they handle this idea of trying to
somehow stop them. Hopefully, the director can bring some of his
appreciation of Fullmetal Alchemist with him and help create a new Gundam
series that can have a story that trumps any disbelief we might express over
the Gundam themselves and they can go back to being war machines and story
devices while the plot and the characters lead on, like First Gundam.
