Yeah, other people have unexpectedly gotten charged EMS shippment,
when (I guess) an order tips over 2000g gross.

about 30% since it's ~40% for EMS minus a 5% discount and "frequent
buyer points" which (IIRC) works out to another 5% discount.
The days of putting 1 large order to save shipping form HLJ is long gong. :)
I am so paranoid that they will ship by EMS that I painstakingly work
out each order based on stock and net weight. I am in the process of
making my 3rd order in 2 weeks. But it can feel like a excruciatingly
slow game of rock-paper-scissors as I guess the hidden meaning of
stock status of some items shifting by the hours. A couple of GMLers
and I figured out that the best way to get HLJ to process or ship your
order quickly is to cancel it completely or otherwise request them to
do something slightly out of the ordinary.
You pointed out something that I kind of overlooked during my recent
orders. I was just happy that it cost me fewer dollars than expected.
Checking Google, US$ is now at near the 1 year lowest point against
Euro, Can $, GBP, Russian Roubles and Chinese RMB (favoring US export
to these countries) but Yen is near the 1 year low against US$
(favoring Jap export to US).
Now I understand why Washington wants to punish Japan along with China...
