You just need to escape that # sign:
<cfset b = replace(url.a,"##","##")>
Run the following code in a test file to see what I mean:
<cfset a = "&##263;">
<cfoutput>
#url.a#<br>
<cfset b = replace(url.a,"##","##")>
#b#
</cfoutput>
So if you did the cffile without the name for the query result and then
did the replace on the cfhttp.filecontent, then you'd probably come up
with something fairly useful and could then manually create your own query.

What we have happening is a server which is running php creates a string. I
read that string from the cold fusion server using cfhttp. I then clean up
the string to replace the line delimiters with carriage returns, and write
the file locally as a text file.
One record we had was Nikola Livakovic with an accent on the c... For
reviewing the import I have it output the text file on the cfm page and I
get the accent showing fine. When I then have this code below read the text
file to try and import the records, I get it changing the Livakovic to
Livaković and the # sign seems to cause it to suggest illegal string...
Do I need to match the character set of the text file / original php server
output so that it reads the content correctly?

Import into what? What's the error? Are you getting a cf error from the #
sign when you're doing a cffile read or are you getting an error trying to
import it into your db? A little more detail on what's happening and I'm
sure we can help you track it down.

Hi,
We've been having trouble with a text registration import... The
person has used special characters in their name - a c with the
accent. When trying to import this comma separated text file, it's
throwing an error when it comes to the ć.
Any suggestion on how to get past this?
Thanks in advance.
