Last week I found Firebug for Firefox:
http://www.joehewitt.com/software/firebug/
It has a Console, DOM Inspector and Debugger. You can set breakpoints
through multiple javascript functions & js files and step through,
checking values on the fly. You can see header info and even turn on an
XMLHttpRequest tracker to watch your AJAX requests and responses.
Today, Jim Rutherford has a screencast showing how it works:

I'm working on a writeup comparing AjaxCFC, CFAjax and JSMX.
Engine method in CFM method in CFC
-------------------------------------------------------------
AjaxCFC DWREngine true true
CFAjax DWREngine true ?
JSMX JSMX true true
AjaxCFC - http://www.robgonda.com/blog/projects/ajaxcfc/
CFAjax - http://www.indiankey.com/cfajax/
JSMX - http://www.lalabird.com/
DWREngine: http://getahead.ltd.uk/dwr/
Rick Root found a security issue in CFAjax which prompted him to move to
AjaxCFC. CFAjax doesn't seem to be under development anymore, so it's
doubtful that the code release will be updated any time soon.
