I agree with clint this is better off
at the serverside where you could ad a hasImage property to your data. The only other thing I could suggest is trying to use the httpStatus event of the image to detect a 404 status code and change the image source to your silhouette image accordingly. This is kind of dirty in my opinion though because you are hitting up the server for items you don't know exist only to hit it up again. Mike.
