Eh? I'm using Samsung Galaxy Ace, and using the built in Gmail client I can bottom-/middle-post. Turn off the onscreen keyboard, and a "Respond inline" button will be uncovered. Tap that, and Bob's your uncle :-) A totally different situation though if I use the Gmail Java mobile client on my Nokia E72-1.
