To be clear, AbiWord's native format is XML. It does also read and write text, RTF, 
and Microsoft Word documents (to an extent). It is still in beta, though prereleases 
are available. The macro/scripting language is slated for the dim future, so there 
would be an opportunity to pitch REBOL here.

Not yet. But I sure will give it a try next time I need RTF.

I myself have settled to use html, or Latex when I need better
printing.
