Our solution is for multiple users—might be overkill if you’re just asking for your own personal account.
For our students, we do GP preferences in the user section of policy, with loopback policy enabled in merge mode, applied to the computer objects. Then, target the policy to just the computers and groups of users you want to have printers assigned, and target the preferences for each printer to the OU of computers. Sounds complicated, but it works REALLY well. So for each school/GPP policy set, the preference list will first delete all printers, then adds back just the printer for the room based on a target “computer in ou” that contains computers in that location, and you can add multiple ous/targets for any particular printer. We only target the actual policy to student accounts, so it doesn’t change printers on staff & teachers (who don’t move around as much) if they log onto those machines. We do have a pretty complex ou structure that goes with this, but you could also target on something like security groups, adding computers to those groups, or even target the specific computer & user objects. -Bonnie From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Eric Brouwer Sent: Thursday, October 1, 2015 5:25 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [NTSysADM] Change default printer based on location Greetings, I split time between two different offices with two different subnets. How can I change my default printer based on which office I am at? I am constantly printing things to the other office... Thanks, Eric
