Ah right. Bit rubbish if you want to log in on a desktop machine at a remote site and get the default printer set based on a roaming profile though.
Microsoft seem to be going very device-centric these days. As a fantastic speaker said at the CUG yesterday "sometimes Microsoft's strategy with regard to roaming users reminds me of a heavily-armed octopus trying desperately to shoot itself in the head" From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of J- P Sent: 01 October 2015 20:55 To: NT <[email protected]> Subject: RE: [NTSysADM] Change default printer based on location http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/manage-default-printers-button-missing/cf2453c6-b47e-4da8-82c5-e9c7246b277a?auth=1 II found a solution. Yes, it must be a laptop or mobile device and it must be Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate or Enterprise, not Home Edition. Afte rsearching forums for hours and finding no answer anywhere online I decided to try something. I deleted the printer from the laptop and went to the printer manufacturer's website. In this case it was an HP printer. I downloaded the driverdirectly to the laptop and added the printer again and voila! there was the Manage Default Printer option and the other options that had been missing. I hope this helps other people! How can I change my default printer based on which office I am at? I am constantly printing things to the other office... Thanks, Eric
